Musings from a Ragamuffin

"Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural, but rather a truth spelled with a capital 'T'. Truth about total reality, not just about religious things. Biblical Christianity is Truth concerning total reality - and the intellectual hold of that Total Truth and then living in the light of that Truth." - Francis Schaeffer

Can't Beat 'em? Ban 'em!

I guess if you can't win the debate then you can legislate someone's view as being illegal instead. Fantastic! And they cry foul because they don't want the religious people legislating their morality, yet it is okay for them to do so. It appears that California has passed SB 1437 into law this week. What is it? The summary states that SB 1437
expressly prohibits textbooks, instructional materials, and school-sponsored activities from “reflecting adversely” on transsexuality, bisexuality, or homosexuality. Instructional materials could not only say “a husband and wife,” but must include “two wives who are married lesbians.” Sex education assemblies would have to include information on sex changes (to avoid “reflecting adversely”).
To read the entire law, you can go either here: Official Site or here: Campaign for Children and Families

Sometimes new like this not only angers me, but discourages me. Guess it just needs to be a reminder of the spiritual/moral battle we're in every day. I'm glad to know who's I am and who's on my side. Otherwise this battle could be overwhelming. All the more reason we Christians have to be "salt and light" in our homes and communities!

Although I'm a California native, it's still hard to believe how liberal the state is. Thanks, Shawn, for the link to Campaign for Children and Families web site. I found a document to send to my district to keep them from teaching any sex education to my children. I'm also going to post a blog regarding this issue and tell everyone I know with kids in the public schools to send an opt-out form too.

Elizabeth - I think this is fairly typical of the current thinking now. There is no mooring to anchor ones thoughts or moral bearings and everything is adrift in "tolerance". So much so that there is no compass setting therefore there is no direction to guide any of these types of important decisions. It's really sad commentary on how a great nation like ours can think its way out of a wet paper bag...

Laura - glad I could point something like that out for you. Hopefully if enough people speak up then some positive change will take place.

What's scary about this legislation is that it covers ALL schools including private ones, like preschools run by churches, and elementary Christian churches - you'd think there'd be a loop hole for that. I'm sure there will be lawsuits in CA from Christian schools on this issue. I can already hear the other side calling our moral teaching 'hate speech'

Elizabeth I agree with you that this is discouraging. It's crazy that something so perverse can hijack the framework of our school system.

This reminds me of when I was in CA, I did some graphic design work for Vineyard. They had a ministry reaching out to people caught up in the homo and transexual lifestyle, the ministry was thriving, but had to stay secret due to bomb threats and one actual bombing. This was reported to the media in Orange County, but was ignored...

Dan - self-promotion will get you nowhere - by the way, nice logo! lol

Seriously, good job and you can "self-promote" your work anytime you want to in my blog. You do some amazing graphically work. God has saddled me with "stick-figure" talent, and even that is highly questionable.

I finally completed my posting on this issue, I had a hard time putting so much emotion into words.

While finishing my lengthy typing, a song came on my XM Pops station that I wondered if you had heard:

Title: Hey Jude
By: King's Singers w/the Cinci. Pops
CD: Music of the Beatles - Kunzel

A really different arrangement... they sound African. You might like it!

Laura - I have not heard that version of the song. I'll attempt to catch it on our Satellite and see if it "pops" up. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be making my way over to your blog shortly to read what you have posted.

I found the album I heard on XM Pops, and the King's Singers aren't African, they're from Cambridge (oops!) Here's a link to the A-Cappella site I found them on:

http://www.a-cappella.com/catalog/browse-cds-by-style/classical/king-s-singers-classical/p_6155c.html

There are a couple of previews on there, but not for Hey Jude, which I thought was pretty good.
I don't know how to add a link directly in a comment, sorry! I need a tutor...
