Musings from a Ragamuffin

"Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural, but rather a truth spelled with a capital 'T'. Truth about total reality, not just about religious things. Biblical Christianity is Truth concerning total reality - and the intellectual hold of that Total Truth and then living in the light of that Truth." - Francis Schaeffer

Da Vinci Joke?

Uh, yeah, so I read this last weekend...Hmmm - fast paced, definitely a page turner. Seriously, it's absolutely horrible in how it paints historical Christianity. I've got so many little flags sticking out of my copy of the book - it's pretty funny looking. The sad thing is that while it is a work of fiction, it's an extremely popular book and many people are taking it very serious and within a historical context - like it's fact. Have we lost our sense of distinguishing fact from fiction? Are the lines so blurred now that we have difficulty knowing the difference? If so, then it's a very tragic time we find ourselves in.

I've avoided reading this so far because I was afraid it would just make me angry. I don't like things that take a "fictional" take on spiritual things. There's usually just enough of a grain of truth in them that people take them a bit too seriously and then we've got all kinds of problems to deal with! : ) I am curious about the book though and will probably read it eventually.

I do think our society has a bit of a problem separating fact from fiction at times. One too many "based on a true story" movies on Lifetime probably. ; )

In response to you comment of my comment on your last entry:

No you don't need pads...they provide the necessary protection. It's on Friday, April 14th from 10 pm to 11 pm at Desert Schools Coyote Center in Peoria. Plan on spending $15...it's cheaper than that right now...but it's a safety net in case people drop out. Come Come Come!

Elizabeth - yes, that book definitely has the propensity to make one angry. I had to put it down once because it was making me so mad I got a headache - lol. My concern with the book is are Christians ready to defend those things that are attacked in the book? My guess is that most are not well prepared for that - unfortunately. I would hope that people will not allow weak and unsubstantiated arguements from those who read it to challenge their faith, but I've heard stories to the contrary. It's definitely something to pray about.

Josh - sounds like a lot of fun - pencil us in. :)
