Musings from a Ragamuffin

"Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural, but rather a truth spelled with a capital 'T'. Truth about total reality, not just about religious things. Biblical Christianity is Truth concerning total reality - and the intellectual hold of that Total Truth and then living in the light of that Truth." - Francis Schaeffer

First Week In The Books

Ah - what a fun first week. Busy, busy, busy - but pretty rewarding as well. As my little test - I had to write a blog application last week - I have it about 90% complete right now - it's saving and updating - now I just need to get it to delete old posts and display all the posts which shouldn't be too difficult. I'll finish that up on Monday and then get on to real work. :)

Well - Joyce (Davina's mom) got on the plane Tuesday morning and made it to Kansas successfully. We have no idea when we will see her again - probably in a few months when her house sells. For those who don't know, Joyce moved back to Kansas to take care of her mom who is elderly and needs assistance. Joyce used to work as a nurse and a homecare person for elderly patients. So she will be out there until her mom passes and then she'll move back out here.

My grandmother arrived in town yesterday afternoon. She always drives here from California and we have always tried to discourage her from doing so because she too is up there in age and shouldn't be attempting it. We are constantly asking her to fly instead. Well, she tried to drive out here on Wednesday, but by the time she reached LA she was entirely too tired and so she turned around and went back home (in Oxnard). Thursday, she tried to drive again and she fell asleep at the wheel and had a fender bender with a car in another lane - apparently she drifted over and ran into another car. She said it wasn't bad at all - no one was hurt - so that's good. She went back home that day as well. We finally got her a plane ticket and so yesterday she flew out here and today Davina and I are driving my mom and grandma up to Flagstaff to visit Shamar's gravesite (Shamar is my little sister - she died a few years ago). It's been just over a year since my mom has been able to visit it - she hasn't been back up there since she moved down here in February of 2005. Looks like it will be a full day. I think we are going to take our digital camera with us and take some photos while we are up there.

Tomorrow is Sunday - always excited about attending church and class. Hopefully we will have another good class session - tomorrow is discussion regarding the video we watched last week and that's always a good time. I like hearing other peoples thoughts and insights on this stuff - it helps me sort out my view at times as well.

Thanks Elizabeth. We had a great time up in Flagstaff - the weather was really nice today. Mom started talking about Shamar's 18th birthday party (Shamar is my sister) and I realized what a poor brother I had been. There was a 9 year age difference between the two of us and it was the first time I realized that I never called her or sent her a card or anything for many of her birthdays. I am really sad because of it. :(

I was very sorry to hear that you had lost your sister.
But I'm glad that you were able to spend time with your Mom and Grandmother remembering her today.

I can't imagine what it's like to lose a sibling, child or anyone younger than me. The grief must be overwhelming. Your mom and grandma are in my prayers for complete healing and strength to accept the loss of your sister. I will pray for you too, Shawn, that you will have God's blessing to give your family comfort as they begin to move to a new life without her.

Thanks for bringing Davina to Precepts tonight. It was great for me to get to know a little more about her, and I pray she will be willing to drive up every week. If you happen to come along for the ride, let Dan know. He'd love for you to come over and help corral our wild ones for the evening!

Thanks for the prayers Laura - we both appreciate it. It will be 3 years since she passed this May 26th. She and my mom had lived together and mom was the one who found her - it had been extremely tough on her for a long time - but she has been doing better. Mom had me preside over the services both at the funeral home at graveside - that was probably the hardest thing I have ever done.

Oh boy - I could probably use the exercise helping Dan - lol. Thanks for the offer.
