Musings from a Ragamuffin

"Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural, but rather a truth spelled with a capital 'T'. Truth about total reality, not just about religious things. Biblical Christianity is Truth concerning total reality - and the intellectual hold of that Total Truth and then living in the light of that Truth." - Francis Schaeffer

A Quest!

I feel like I'm in Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail since Elizabeth Carman has given me something to do on my blog. :)

Okay - so I was tagged to reveal five things about myself that most people may not know.

1. When I was a kid I loved to cook and I wanted to be a chef.
2. I had a terrible temper growing up and would fight if somebody even looked at me in a way I didn't approve of.
3. The first girl I kissed was in 4th grade - I don't remember her name.
4. I went to private school and I taught myself Intro to Algebra and Advanced Algebra in one school year. We were allowed to move at our own pace and for some reason when I saw a problem I would instantly see the answer.
5. This is not something I reveal easily or at the drop of a hat, but since most of the people who read this are friends, I feel like its something you should know about me. But even if you're a stranger, maybe this is a way to reach out to people who dealt with the same or similar thing. I grew up in an abusive home (mental and sexual) and my step-dad would use the Bible to show me how bad I was. I always say that it is a miracle that I am a Christian at all, because I had no good reason to remain in the Faith when it was more of a negative than a positive experience in my formative years.

Bonus:

6. I have an IQ of 144. :) So I think that makes me an official geek or nerd or something...

I will now tag:
Josh
Neena
Laura (I would tag Dan too, but apparently he doesn't have a blog...so lame)
Amber
Jesica

Wow! You did good on your quest! I knew you were a pretty smart guy, but teaching yourself algebra...I'm impressed!

Isn't it amazing how God works in our life. Praise God for the hold he kept on your heart even through the pain.

Thanks for sharing with us. I"m honored to be counted as your friend!

Hi Maggie!

Thanks for visiting and commenting. G.K. Chesterton is a great author. Probably one of the few extremely witty Christian authors. I only own one book by him titled "Orthodoxy". It is a short book and a great read. He also wrote some a series of detective stories in the late 1800's I believe. Orthodoxy was written around 1906 or so. You can find that book either via Amazon or in a Christian bookstore (you have to check their classic section for this book). I picked it up fairly cheap - I think it was 7 or 8 dollars. Davina also bought it on audio book for me this past Christmas. There is one of his books that you can read online titled The Everlasting Man which had a huge impact and influence on C.S. Lewis. I haven't read it yet - but I plan to in the near future.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know about him.

Love you sweetie and love your answers. You're very brave.

Oh and by the way, if I buy you a chef's hat, and refer to you as "Chef Shawn", will you cook dinner? ;-)

ha ha j/k

Yes - as long by "cooking" you mean "ordering out".
