Musings from a Ragamuffin

"Christianity is not a series of truths in the plural, but rather a truth spelled with a capital 'T'. Truth about total reality, not just about religious things. Biblical Christianity is Truth concerning total reality - and the intellectual hold of that Total Truth and then living in the light of that Truth." - Francis Schaeffer

Dr. Who Meets the Beatles

An employee at work who knows that I am a Beatles fan sent me this link. along with the following article:
The Beatles had a guest appearance on Doctor Who in 1965 -- singing "Ticket to Ride." Afterwards, a traveller from the future remarks that she's heard of the Beatles, having visited their memorial in Liverpool, but that she didn't realize that the Beatles also performed "classical music." This is black-and-white Doctor Who comedy gold.
Here is a direct link to the article: Doctor Who meets the Beatles, 1965

Happy Birthday Eric Idle!

Today is Eric's birthday. He was born in 1943 - so that makes him pretty old today, at least much, much older than me. :)

That's all I have for now...

The Return of the Wife

Yay for me - Davina gets back this evening. I get to pick her up after work, so I'm pretty excited about that. For those who did not know, she was in Chicago visiting our friends since last Thursday. Sounds like she had fun, but it will be nice for her to get back home. :)

Where In The World Is Me?

Wow - has it been so long? I suppose it has. It is not because I have not anything to post about, but rather because I have been pretty busy as of late. I have had so many things that I have wanted to post, yet by the time I get around to it, the last place I want to be is sitting in front of the computer for a few minutes to do so.

So - a short "catch-up"...

24 rocks this season.
LOST is da bomb and has returned to its true form of "wowing" me with each episode.
Finished one class (Philosophy 101) and have begun another class (Philosophy 351).
I'm a bachelor for a few days while Davina is in Chicago visiting friends.
I've got some new music purchases to share via the Music Mondays again - I'll be getting that up and running soon.
I love peeps and it is peep season. :)

A Quest!

I feel like I'm in Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail since Elizabeth Carman has given me something to do on my blog. :)

Okay - so I was tagged to reveal five things about myself that most people may not know.

1. When I was a kid I loved to cook and I wanted to be a chef.
2. I had a terrible temper growing up and would fight if somebody even looked at me in a way I didn't approve of.
3. The first girl I kissed was in 4th grade - I don't remember her name.
4. I went to private school and I taught myself Intro to Algebra and Advanced Algebra in one school year. We were allowed to move at our own pace and for some reason when I saw a problem I would instantly see the answer.
5. This is not something I reveal easily or at the drop of a hat, but since most of the people who read this are friends, I feel like its something you should know about me. But even if you're a stranger, maybe this is a way to reach out to people who dealt with the same or similar thing. I grew up in an abusive home (mental and sexual) and my step-dad would use the Bible to show me how bad I was. I always say that it is a miracle that I am a Christian at all, because I had no good reason to remain in the Faith when it was more of a negative than a positive experience in my formative years.

Bonus:

6. I have an IQ of 144. :) So I think that makes me an official geek or nerd or something...

I will now tag:
Josh
Neena
Laura (I would tag Dan too, but apparently he doesn't have a blog...so lame)
Amber
Jesica

24 - Wow

I can't believe that we are already in to hour 7 of this show. So much has happened that it has definitely been a bit crazy. Both Davina and I smelled a rat when it came towards the end of last nights episode with Jack's dad. Apparently the family that nukes together does not stay together for very long. It is interesting to see the dynamic between Jack's Dad and Jacks' brother - that there really wasn't any trust built up between them. Each one was there just to serve the other person's purpose and when that purpose was either met or thought to be in jeopardy, then it was easy to discard that person.

I love Morris O'Brian's character and I can't believe what happened to him last night. This roller coaster never stops. I still do not understand why Karen did not stand up to Tom and just let him expose the alleged cover-up. In the grand scheme of all that was going on during the show, it did not seem to be that monumental and I believe the President would have sided with her. I guess the writers had her resign to keep the story going - but I don't know. It just seems out of character for her.

This Wednesday - the return of LOST - woot!!!

Cookie Jar

i would turn on the tv, but its so embarrassing
to see all the other people, i dont know what they mean
it was magic at first, when they spoke without sound
but now this world is gonna hurt, you better turn that thing down
turn it around

it wasnt me, says the boy with the gun
sure i pulled the trigger, but it needed to be done
because lifes been killing me ever since it begun
you cant blame me because im too young

you cant blame me, sure the killer was my son
but i didnt teach him to pull the trigger of the gun
its the killing on his tv screen
you cant blame me, its those images he seen

you cant blame me, says the media man
i wasnt the one who came up with the plan
i just point my camera at what the people want to see
its a two way mirror and you cant blame me

you cant blame me, says the singer of the song
or the maker of the movie which he based his life on
its only entertainment, as anyone can see
its smoke machines and makeup, you cant fool me

it was you, it was me, it was every man
weve all got the blood on our hands
we only receive what we demand
and if we want hell then hells what well have

i would turn on the tv, but its so embarrassing
to see all the other people, dont know what they mean
it was magic at first, but let everyone down
and now this world is gonna hurt, you better turn it around
turn it around

- Jack Johnson, On And On (2003)

Ah - just good, straight-forward acoustic music with a voice - absolutely nothing better than that in music, except for perhaps a violin quartet. I love this guys music and I've been listening to a couple of his albums this past week while I've been working. I thought this one had some interesting things to say...

Unbelievably Sad

I don't even know where to begin with this news article, so I won't...

However, is this how far we have fallen? Has the image of whom we are created in been so damaged that this is what some people resort to? I'm baffled and speechless...

12-year old boy is now a girl

And even though I can not stand REM, perhaps they were right, "this is the end of the world as we know it..."
